Once a mundane process, the modern education no longer just presents information while testing for retention and understanding. It involves tasks of engaging students, stimulating their interests, retaining their attention, and maintaining a positive attitude in a nurturing environment. By creating learning situations that are fun, gamification is trying to achieve that healthy balance in education. Let’s take a look at some of them and how they are producing more effective educational environment.


CourseHero: Improving the Teacher-Student Interactions Online

Course Hero is an online portal for educators to distribute their educational resources and a learning platform for students. The site forms a vast learning repository by collecting and organizing study materials that have been uploaded by educators and student users to. Syllabi, problem set etc. are some of the materials provided by the education gamification platform and practice exams are combined with class notes, flash cards, and study guides that have been uploaded. “Courses Section” is a prominent feature of the platform which offers a range of free and paid courses, based on aggregated web content. It offers incentives such as an invitation to pitch a business plan to SV Angel, a job interview with Course Hero, and/or a cash prize.

Socrative 101: In-Class mobile interaction between Teacher and Student

Offering a solution to the dull and boring classroom by engaging students through a response system, Socrative 101 provides educational exercises and games over a laptop or mobile device. Students are given a virtual room number which they enter through the web and the instructor can then engage with them and initiate a quiz. This education gamification program helps teachers track the results better and adapt lessons to these modern learning styles.
